He has more than 28 years of experience working in Power Electronics. His major research interest in this field is related to the storage, conversion and power electronics conditioning, modeling and control of power systems and subsystems for transportation (Electric vehicle and Fuel Cell vehicle, aircraft, spacecraft and trains) and, also, for the telecommunications and renewable sector. In addition, he has developed applied research, which he has spread in conferences and prestigious journals and transactions through the publication of 361 papers (220 International papers and 141 National papers (in Spanish), most of them in IEEE Conferences and Transactions).

In these research areas, he has kept international collaborations with ten entities, the University of Birmingham (UK)**, the Universidad Católica Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (Paraguay)**, The University of Manchester (UK), European Space Agency (Netherlands), Tallinn University of Technology (Estonia), CPES Virginia (USA), Laboratoire Plasmas et Conversion dEnergie (France), University of Toronto (Canadá)**, University of Padova (Italy), among others, sharing research and papers with them. (**stays between 5 weeks and 5 months).

Andres Barrado has participated in 29 projects with competitive public funding (16 as principal researcher) and 88 contracts with companies (60 as principal researcher), national and international, mainly related to the sector of transport, energy and telecommunication, highlighting among them: AIRBUS, EADS, ESA, SENER, METROMADRID, SEPSA, POWERSIM (USA), ENDESA, UNION FENOSA, BESEL, ONCE, BTESA, etc. He is also co-author of 10 patents and 1 software patent, some of them in operation, and he has been co-founder of the technology-based spin-off named “Power Smart Control S.L.”. In addition, he has taught 34 courses about Power Electronics and EMI-EMC.

Also, he is a SENIOR member of the IEEE; project reviewer for the National Agency of Evaluation and Foresight (ANEP) in Spain; expert of the Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification (AENOR); Evaluator Member for the National Agency for the Promotion of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Argentina; reviewer of papers in different IEEE journals and conferences. He has participated in 61 conferences (mainly IEEE), and he has been General Chair of the Conference SAAEI 2009. He is also a member of the Organizing Committee, Program Committee, or Technical Committee for SAAEI, CPE-POWERENG, VPPC, etc.

Finally, he has directed 10 Ph.D. Thesis, four of them with Ph.D. awards; he is co-author of a book published by Pearson Prentice Hall “Problemas de Electrónica de Potencia” and a technical review of a book published by Pearson Prentice Hall “Introduction to Power Electronics – D.W.Hart”, both in the field of Power Electronics.
