BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Emilio Olías Ruiz is Professor on Electronic Technology (since 1996) in the Department of Electronic Technology at the Carlos III University of Madrid. Also, he is ombudsperson at University Carlos III of Madrid, Spain, since May 9th 2018. He is currently Professor and Researcher of the Electronic Power Systems Group (GSEP) of the Carlos III University of Madrid.

Emilio Olías Ruiz is Professor on Electronic Technology (since 1996) in the Department of Electronic Technology at the Carlos III University of Madrid. He obtained his PhD in Industrial Engineering (1983) from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, where he graduated in Industrial Engineering (1981). He has been Associate Professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and Assistant Professor at the Spanish National Distance Education University (UNED).

His works have been published in leading international magazines in the field of renewable energy, such as Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics or Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews.

He is currently Professor and Researcher of the Electronic Power Systems Group (GSEP) of the Carlos III University of Madrid and previously he was Dean of the School of Engineering (2004-2012), Deputy Dean of Industrial Engineering and First Deputy Dean of the School of Engineering (2000-2004).He was also Head of the Department of Electronic Technology (1999-2000).

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Andres Barrado is Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University Carlos III of Madrid since 2000. Since 1994, he has worked in the Electronics Technology Department at the University Carlos III of Madrid. Since 2012, he is a Full Professor. In addition, he is Head of the Power Electronic Systems Group (GSEP-UC3M) (since 2005).

He works in Power Electronics since 1994. His research interest is related to the storage, conversion and power electronics conditioning, modeling and control of power systems and subsystems for transportation (Electric vehicle and Fuel Cell vehicle, aircraft, spacecraft and trains).

Andres Barrado is Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University Carlos III of Madrid since 2000. Since 1994, he has worked in the Electronics Technology Department at the University Carlos III of Madrid. Since 2012, he is a Full Professor. In addition, he is Head of the Power Electronic Systems Group (GSEP-UC3M) (since 2005). He has also been Deputy Director of the Superior Polytechnic School (EPS) (3 years), Director of the Bachelor degree in Industrial Electronics and Automation (3 years), Director of the Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering (1.5 years), Secretary of the EPS (5 years), Co-Director of the Chair SEPSA (14 years) and Co-Director of the Chair BESEL (4 years).

He has more than 28 years of experience working in Power Electronics. His major research interest in this field is related to the storage, conversion and power electronics conditioning, modeling and control of power systems and subsystems for transportation (Electric vehicle and Fuel Cell vehicle, aircraft, spacecraft and trains) and, also, for the telecommunications and renewable sector. In addition, he has developed applied research, which he has spread in conferences and prestigious journals and transactions through the publication of 361 papers (220 International papers and 141 National papers (in Spanish), most of them in IEEE Conferences and Transactions).

In these research areas, he has kept international collaborations with ten entities, the University of Birmingham (UK)**, the Universidad Católica Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (Paraguay)**, The University of Manchester (UK), European Space Agency (Netherlands), Tallinn University of Technology (Estonia), CPES Virginia (USA), Laboratoire Plasmas et Conversion dEnergie (France), University of Toronto (Canadá)**, University of Padova (Italy), among others, sharing research and papers with them. (**stays between 5 weeks and 5 months).

Andres Barrado has participated in 29 projects with competitive public funding (16 as principal researcher) and 88 contracts with companies (60 as principal researcher), national and international, mainly related to the sector of transport, energy and telecommunication, highlighting among them: AIRBUS, EADS, ESA, SENER, METROMADRID, SEPSA, POWERSIM (USA), ENDESA, UNION FENOSA, BESEL, ONCE, BTESA, etc. He is also co-author of 10 patents and 1 software patent, some of them in operation, and he has been co-founder of the technology-based spin-off named “Power Smart Control S.L.”. In addition, he has taught 34 courses about Power Electronics and EMI-EMC.

Also, he is a SENIOR member of the IEEE; project reviewer for the National Agency of Evaluation and Foresight (ANEP) in Spain; expert of the Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification (AENOR); Evaluator Member for the National Agency for the Promotion of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Argentina; reviewer of papers in different IEEE journals and conferences. He has participated in 61 conferences (mainly IEEE), and he has been General Chair of the Conference SAAEI 2009. He is also a member of the Organizing Committee, Program Committee, or Technical Committee for SAAEI, CPE-POWERENG, VPPC, etc.

Finally, he has directed 10 Ph.D. Thesis, four of them with Ph.D. awards; he is co-author of a book published by Pearson Prentice Hall “Problemas de Electrónica de Potencia” and a technical review of a book published by Pearson Prentice Hall “Introduction to Power Electronics – D.W.Hart”, both in the field of Power Electronics.

CV SUMMARY

Cristina is an Industrial Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) in 1998 and a PhD in Industrial Engineering (cum laude) from the same university in 2004.

Her research is focused on the field of Power Electronics, with special interest in non-contact energy transfer, the design and modeling of high-frequency magnetic components, identification techniques for switched DC/DC converters, induction heating applied to thermoplastic materials and modular power systems in satellites.

From 1997 to 2003 she worked as a trainee researcher at the Electronic Engineering Division of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. In 2003 she joined the Carlos III University of Madrid, where she is currently a university professor in the Department of Electronic Technology, where she has taught and coordinated more than 17 different subjects, participated and has participated in 10 educational innovation projects, leading 3 of them. She has also participated in the making of 2 OCWs and 3 SPOCs.

In the year 2000 she carried out a research stay at the General Electric Company Research Center (CRD-GE, Niskayuna, New York, USA). In 2016 she spent three months as a visiting researcher at Tyndall National Institute (Cork, Ireland), associated with the Strategic Programs department and working with integrated magnetic components.

She has worked on more than 21 publicly financed projects and 45 privately financed projects, leading 4 of them.

She belongs to the Editorial Committee of the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics magazine (Q1 of the JCR) since 2013, serving as Associate Editor. In 2017 she joined as Guest Associate Editor for the special issue Power Supplies on Chip (PwrSoC) of the IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics (JCR Q1), receiving the Star Associate Editor award in 2019. In 2017 she joined joined the technical committee “Power and Control Core Technologies (TC1)” of the IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS), where she is secretary-elect (2018-2022).

At the national level, since 2008 she is a member of the board of directors of the IEEE-PELS-IES Spanish Chapter, being vice president (2017-2019) and president (2020-2021). She participates in the Technical Committee of the Annual Seminar on Automation, Electronics and Instrumentation (SAAEI), coordinating the Didactic Applications area and participating in the organization of the congress in 2009. Since 2015 she is also a member of the board of directors of the Spanish Chapter of Education of the IEEE, where she works as Coordinator of the Committee for dissemination and relationship with other associations and entities.

She has worked as an expert evaluator for ANEP in different national calls since 2006, as an evaluator for IMSERSO projects in 2006 and as an expert for the European Commission in 2017, 2018 and 2020.

Marina Sanz is an Associate Professor in the Electronics Technology Department at the University Carlos III of Madrid.

She is PhD in Industrial Engineering with experience in the field of Power Electronics since 1997. Her main research interests are focused on the modeling and control of converters and the stability issues of power distribution systems.

CV SUMMARY

Marina Sanz is PhD in Industrial Engineering with a research career of more than 20 years in the field of Power Electronics carried out in two centers, the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and the Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M). From 1997 to 2001, she was employed at the UPM in the framework of an european research project and to develop her Doctoral Thesis. Since 2001, she has been carrying out her professional activity at UC3M, where she has complemented her professional career with other facets of interest, through the performance of various teaching and management positions. Since 2015, she is the Director of the Degree in Industrial Electronics and Automation Engineering and Vice-Dean of the Polytechnic School of UC3M.

Dr. Sanz’s main lines of research are focused on the modeling and control of converters and the stability issues of power distribution electronic systems. Her research has been financed by public and private funds, where she has participated in more than 60 projects, contracts and collaboration agreements, being 16 competitive (3 European) and 45 contracts and agreements with more than 10 different companies or organizations (ALCATEL, POWERSIM (USA), EADS, AIRBUS, SENER, METROMADRID, SEPSA, Ministry of Defense, Institute IMDEA Energy). It is important to highlight among them, 7 international, 2 Chairs, 1 long-term collaboration agreement and 4 CENIT type projects. In addition, she has participated as principal researcher in 6 projects, being 2 of them with international entities and 1 coordinated with another entity. Moreover, her activity has an important transfer to the productive sector, being co-author of 7 patents and 1 software patent in international exploitation. Finally, since 2016, she is a founding partner of the company Power Smart Control S.L., a spin-off of UC3M.

In her research activity, she has placed special emphasis on the dissemination of knowledge, through publications in journals, book chapters and prestigious national and international conferences. Dr. Sanz has published more than 120 articles in journals and conferences (77 international and 50 national) and a book chapter in IEEE societies, several of them in collaboration with prestigious international centers such as the University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the Smart Grid Laboratory (SINTEF), in Norway, and with the European Space Agency (ESA), in the Netherlands. In addition, she has been invited to give 2 technical tutorials at national and international congresses. She has also participated in the organizing and scientific committee of the IEEE COMPEL international conference in several editions since 2014, and she is topic area coordinator at the SAAEI national congress since 2010, of which she has been Member of the program committee in 2009. Additionally, since 2014, she has been a Member of the technical committee of the IEEE “Power and Control Core Technologies” since 2014 and since 2016, she is an Associate Editor of the indexed journal (Q1) “IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics”.
